Training Days

It is the end of May 2008. As my training in Analog Devices Gen. Trias is coming to its end, it would mean Bilang na ang mga masasayang araw ko. Why? Here are my top ten reasons:
  1. No regular food delivery
  2. No nappy nappy sessions
  3. No classroom setting type of training
  4. Editing my blog site would not be a priority
  5. Visiting accessible sites will never be as often as in the training
  6. No sound trip!
  7. Editing pictures for the blog would not be a priority
  8. Won't be around with the other 7 New College Graduates (NCGs) that often
  9. Trash talking with the other NCGs
  10. No ID, no entry.

I Am Blessed

I am happy to tell you that I feel blessed. I slept at around 12:30 this morning chatting with some of our new neighbors and the owner our new apartment. They are beautiful people. I really had fun (while coughing) talking with them. They somehow interrogate me about my job and I am deafen by the sentence Ang swerte nyo naman.

Missing

Today as I was riding the shuttle bus I came to realize that I miss the sun. Its shining face glowing everywhere. Its warming touch in the morning (but not at noon, oh please). I missed the sun.

Right now I'm having trouble with my sore throat. It really sucks that I cough on the average of 7 cough sessions per minute. Isn't that great? I will survive. Truth shall prevail. I will be healthy once again.

See you soon, my friend. *cough* *cough*

Analog Magic

Have you ever wonder how magicians change a human into a tiger? How about making the card disappear and make it reappear? Is it really magic? Yes, it is.

According to Wikipedia, magic is an art of performing illusions and tricks (most magicians prefer effects than tricks). It is entertaining people, not making fun of them nor making them feel stupid (though some feel stupid). Magic is fun especially if you know how it is done and how to perform it. As quoted from Jay Sankey, "Knowing the trick doesn't make you a magician." Most people think they are superior when they know the trick but I pity them. That's not what magic is. Magic is more than knowing it.

Just like music, magic has different genre. Magic isn't only making elephant disappear, it isn't only cutting the sexy assistant into half, it isn't only making a person levitate. There are many to mention. One of them is the close-up magic.

Close-up magic unlike stage magic is performing the craft near to an audience. It is the magic that I consider performing. Why? It is cheaper in materials and tools needed, nearer to the audience, and could interact better with the audience than stage magic. There are three basic types of close-up magic that I could think of. The first is card magic, second is rope magic, and third is coin magic.

Card magic. Deals with cards (amazed?). This magic is the easiest among the three. It would take only a minute to teach an apprentice with the simplest effect. This where I started my craft. Some cards have nice effects. Some cards are used in sleight of hands. For a laymen (non magicians), cards with effects are better to use. They have better impact. For fellow magicians, sleights are more preferable. Some magicians mix the two subcategories of card magic for a better impact. My point here is that a magician also considers who will be his audience. Different tools for different applications. Ask an electrian if he used a hammer to repair a television.

Rope magic. Deals with ropes (amazed again?). This magic is easier than coin magic. But unlike card magic, it requires serious practice. I am still mastering the art in cards. I will be learning with ropes soon. So what is rope magic? If you had been a boy or girl scout or a mountaineer, you know different types of knots. In rope magic, you are required to know most of them. Ropes require knots.

Coin magic. Deals with coins (amazed again and again?). This magic is easy to do. But unlike the two other subcategories of close-up magic, it requires you to practice and practice more and more seriously (exaggerated? Not really. Still not enough). You should have soft hands when you deal with this. It is normal for a newbie (like me) to have hard hands. I tell you, it is painful when you do the basic routines of coin magic. I am still softening my hands. But I have a problem which I cannot expose. I am also having a hard time with coin magic.

You maybe thinking why is coin magic easy when I'm having a hard time learning and practicing it. Magic is easy if you are determined to learn and practice. As the great Dai Vernon said, even if it is a simple trick but you practice it over and over again, that will make a big difference. Practice makes perfect.

It is almost time to pack up. See you again in my next post.

Magically,
Niño

If I Am

by Nine Days

So your standing on a ledge,
It looks like you might fall.
So far down,
Or maybe you were thinking about jumping.
Now you could have it all,
If you learned a little patience!
For though I cannot fly,
I'm not content to crawl!...
So give me a little credit,
Have in me a little faith!
I want to be with you forever,
If tomorrow's not too late!...

And it's always too late when you've got nothing
So you say!...
But you should never let the sun set on tomorrow,
Before the sun rises today...

IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you dreamed of,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...

So your walking on the edge,
And you wait your turn to fall.
But you're so far gone,
That you don't see the hands upheld to catch you.
And you could find the fault,
In the heart that you've been handed!
For though you cannot fly,
You're not content to crawl!...
And it's always too late when you've got nothing
So you say!...
But you should never let the sun set on tomorrow,
Before the sun rises...

IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you hoped for,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...
So you're standing on a ledge,
It looks like you might fall...

IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you dreamed of,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...
The answers we find,
Are never what we had in mind.
So we make it up as we go along...
You don't talk of dreams
I won't mention tomorrow.
And we won't make those promises that we can't keep...

I will never leave you!
I will not let you down!
I will never leave you!
I will not let you down!

Stars Above

To whom it may concern,

There are a lot of people who think better or worse than I am. But I know for sure that I know myself better than anybody in most aspects of my life. Ia have been with myself for the past 23 years. It is indeed a big trap to assume.

I pity those people who think they are better than I am. Those who think that they are innocent but not me. Those who think they are as clean as a white sheet of paper but not me. A lot of those people exist even in your own family. If somebody told me that I am stupid I would gladly accept it if that person is not stupid. Unfortunately, most people are. Judge others if you are done judging yourself. Find your flaws first before you find the flaws of others. Look in front of the mirror. Don't be sarcastic my friend. If you are really innocent, admit first that you are not.

Do not do unto others what you do not want others do unto you. Simple as that. Stop making stupid stuff to others if you don't want to feel stupid. Be considerate. Be sensitive.

Think well and God bless you my friend.

Niño

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park

PHILIPPINES: Puerto Princesa
Subterranean River National Park
The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world's longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water's edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.

Fish For Sale

I have been selfish to most people and to myself. I want everything to be in perfect. I am a perfectionist.

Today, I realized (again) how life is imperfectly perfect. There are a lot of things that I am not comfortable with then blame it to anybody or anything else. I am blessed that I get to let my feelings out to a friend (thanks barbie!). Do I have personality crisis? I think. Yes.

Reflection:
Raise me up dear Lord for I am weak. May you grant me strength to face my life's imperfections for I know they are perfect. Amen.

So, I will do my best, my friend, to be semi-perfectionist. I cannot change overnight, right?

Best regards,
Niño

Oxygen

I admit, I am addicted to oxygen. Just like drugs, it is addicting. Everyday, I get to have it. Every hour, every minute, every second. It is simply addicting.

This morning, I woke up around 4 o'clock short on breathing. I had breathed deep, grasped more oxygen until I stabilized. It was a hard experience, but I guess not as hard as those who have serious problems with their breathings. Many of us experience waking up in the morning short on breathing. It is normal for us to inhale as many oxygen as we could simply because we are addicted to it.

The greatest teaching is LOVE. Love your god (I love God in my case), love your family, love your friends, love your enemies, love the animals, love our planet, love all tangible and non-tangible things, love...love...love. Nothing is wrong with it.

Love is oxygen, we are all addicted to it (even atheists). Breath as many oxygen as you should. Breath as many Love as you could. We are addicted to both anyway.

Concentrate now...breath in, breath out....ohhhh.

Your lover,
Niño

P.S. Love for money is not bad. Being obsessed with money is bad.

Glimpse

Each morning I always hope of seeing somebody. A glimpse is fine with me.

I wake up each morning excited for office work. I hate weekends. Do you know why? No office work. No yummy meals at the canteen (it is subsidized which makes it yummier). No aircon (it's summer...and it's hot!). And no glimpse of somebody.

Today at breakfast I had kangkong, half-cup of rice, and coffee. It is my best breakfast as it was and as it will. I had a nice view of the parking area, the Intel plant site (savoring the remaining days of Intel), and the glimpse of her.

A good friend of mine (and a good teacher) told me before that I am crazy when I like somebody. I guess she is right. Just imagine me cancelling an activity that I planned to do regularly for a glimpse of her. Crazy, huh?

Anyway, lecture will start in a while. See you again in my next postings!

I Am But A Small Voice

I have a lot of insecurities (poor those who doesn't have one). I am insecure to somebody who is wiser than I am, richer than I am, more talented than I am, more attractive than I am, and many to mention. Why does God make somebody greater than I am? Simply because He wants me to be challenged. Everyday, I meet a lot of people who are better, greater, and whateverer than I am.

Two days ago, I bought the book Tuesdays With Morrie (For those who know me that much, I guess you are laughing at me right now). I am amazed how Morrie embraced the truth of the time left for his life. If most of us were in his shoes we would probably get sad. We might get mad at the world, we might mess the remaining minutes of our lives, we might do negative this and that. But not Morrie. Though I haven't finished reading the book yet (due to technical reasons...damn, when do I get to poo poo that book), I am awakened by the truth. One must think of dying in order to live. Sounds weird, but it is true. From Og Mandino's book The Greatest Salesman, one of the scrolls is "I live today as if it were my last." Today is today. It is not tomorrow, not yesterday, but today. How am I relating this to my insecurities? First I acknowledge that I am inferior, then I get rid of it, then I am challenged. I strive for my survival. I eat those who are better than me (just kidding). I strive for the better me not tomorrow, but today. Each day is a today. Scientifically, you will be asked: How do you evolve?.

Oh man, how's the Wall Street doing lately?

April 16, 2008 Post

Today is April 16, 2008.

Time is fast. It was February 16, 2008 when I first came in Cavite. I could not believe it---two months had already passed. Recalling the day two months ago, it was tough for me. After 23 years of my existence in Iloilo City, here I am in Cavite for a job. As expected, I "brought my house" with me. I had five baggages which all in all summed up to 43 kgs. I paid the extra weight for about PhP700. It was indeed tough for me carrying those baggages! But tougher when you see your family waving their good byes. It was my first time to leave them and live on my own.

Two months is like two seconds. Time is so fast you hardly notice. I guess, as I am posting this blog I will be reading this a month from now like I posted it a second ago during that time.
